Background:

Multiple-Award-Winning Screenwriter, Director and Producer based in Manhattan, New York.

The second of two adopted children, Dan was born and raised outside Boston, Massachusetts alongside his older sister, Katie, and is the son of two clinical and developmental psychologists. His father, Jack Demick, is a globally recognized author, editor and Ivy League Graduate Professor. As a child, Dan began to develop a exceptionally mature interest in the work of his esteemed father, frequently accompanying Jack to work and willingly offering his participation in graduate level experiments on child develop. His mother, Joan Kellerman, owns and operates a private psychological practice and is responsible for much of Dan’s early exposure to the arts, often taking him to theaters, multiplexes and art museums.

Early into his youth, Dan’s curiosity with, understanding of, and passion for the visual medium showed significant signs of emergence, expansion and growth, as he earned numerous Student-Film Awards before the age of fifteen.

In 2019, Dan received his Master’s Degree in Media Studies and Film Production from The New School, located in New York City. Prior to this, he earned Bachelor's Degrees in both Film Studies and in Marketing from Hofstra University in 2011.

In addition to his year’s of extensive formal academic training film production, Dan has been working professionally in the industry since age 17 as a production assistant, apprentice film editor, casting associate, assistant director, and director’s assistant.

With over thirty short and feature length screenwriting credits to his name, Dan has also directed numerous Award-Winning films and is currently touring his most recent project, Dodgson. As of Summer 2019, Dan’s critically acclaimed film has won numerous ‘Grand Jury’ Prizes for Best Short Film, been named an ‘Official Selection’ at several Academy-Award/BAFTA Qualifying Film Festivals, and is sparking extreme interest from international recognized film distribution companies, motion picture studios, and talent agencies.
